Abstract

1444192 Polyisocyanate compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 March 1975 [3 April 1974] 14785/74 Heading C3R A polyisocyanate composition comprises, by wt.: 30-85% (A) a mixture of methylenebridged polyphenyl isocyanates, 5-70% (B) a reaction product of diphenylmethane diisocyanate with an alkylene or polyoxyalkylene diol in mole proportions from 1 : 0À005 to 1 : 0À6, and 0-50% (C) diphenylmethane diisocyanate (D), where (A) contains 30-65% (D), the balance being methylene-bridged polyisocyanates of higher functionality and byproducts from the manufacture of such polyisocyanates by phosgenation; and where the composition comprises 55-90% (D), including that prereacted with the diol. The components may be blended at 50-70‹ C., any solid diisocyanate being melted before blending. The composition is used to manufacture integralskin rigid, semi-rigid, and flexible polyurethane foams, polyurethane car bumpers, crash-padding, and microcellular shoe soles.
