Amplifying and repeating systems.-In signalling systems in which currents of different frequencies are used at different times (for example, in a telephone repeater system which amplifies voice-currents and must also be able to deal with ringing-current of lower frequency, such as 133 cycles per second) means are provided which respond to currents of a particular frequency (such as the ringing frequency) to improve the transmission of that frequency. In the repeating system shown in Fig. 1, ringing-current energizes a relay 11 in a tuned circuit bridged across a, condenser 12 on the out-put side of the amplifier 1, and the relay 11 de-energizes a relay 10 to bridge a condenser 7 across the input transformer 2, forming a circuit resonant to currents of the ringing-frequency, whereby the amplification of such currents is greatly increased. The relay 10 also open-circuits a potentiometer 6, which is normally bridged across the input circuit and which serves to adjust the degree of amplification of voice-currents.
