Abstract

1442319 Tempering glass sheets TRIPLEX SAFETY GLASS CO Ltd 11 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 34706/73 Heading C1M A method of tempering glass sheets in which the edge of the sheet which first contacts the quenching medium is heated to a higher temperature than the opposite trailing edge of the sheet. As shown after bending a sheet passes through a zone heated by electric resistance elements 27. When the leading edge of the sheet has reached the bottom of the zone the sheet is acclerated thereby producing a temperature gradient between the trailing and leading edges. Preferably the temperatures are 680‹ and 700‹ C. respectively. After heating the sheets pass into quenching oil contained in a tank 26.
