Abstract

1442308 Cutting-out apparatus BEASLEY FRENCH & CO Ltd 28 Sept 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 46968/72 Heading B4B A rotary cutter unit for a web or blank-cutting machine comprises a shaft 12 journalled in a support, a removable sleeve 14, 16 secured to the shaft and carrying a cutting-out tool 24, the sleeve having at least one aperture 20 communicating with a channel 22 therein, and a valve block 32 arranged to be in sliding contact with the outlet end of the channel so that suction can be applied to a cut-out piece in the tool during a part revolution of the shaft. The sleeve is formed from two ports 14, 16 removably clamped on the shaft by screws 18. The valve block 32 is provided with spigots 34 slidable in elongate apertures 36 and loaded by springs 38 such that the block is urged into sealing contact with the end of the sleeve. The valve block is formed with arcuate ports 40, 42 so that during a part of the rotation of the shaft the interior of the tool is connected to the suction source and during a further part of the rotation the interior is connected to a pressure source thereby ejecting the cut-out portion from the tool. In a modification the cutting tool can be formed integrally with the sleeve instead of separate as shown.
