Abstract
1442129 Containers for molten metal BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO Ltd 16 Jan 1974 [17 Jan 1973] 2475/73 Heading F4B A container for molten metal has an outer iron shell 13 and a lining of refractory material 12 spaced from the outer shell by a heat conducting medium 15 whose properties are such that the temperature difference between the shell and lining does not exceed 160‹ C. The heat conducting medium may be : aluminium, aluminium alloy, silicon carbide, graphite. Iron shot or similar particulate material with a dispersing or bonding agent. A fused salt or mixture of fused salts. The refractory lining is preferably a monolithic lining of alumina bonded silicon carbide, but may also be formed from carbon bonded silicon carbide or clay graph- ite and should preferably contain over 662/3% of silicon carbide and/or graphite. Liquid aluminium and its alloys may be treated in the container by heating the container externally.
