Abstract

1442123 Flaring tube-ends IMPERIALEASTMAN CORP 7 April 1975 [11 July 1974] 14224/75 Heading B3J The end of a tube T is flared by a tool comprising a yoke 12 from which extend resilient clamping fingers 16 forming a socket, a pair of replaceable jaws 30, 31 in the socket, a clamp 17, 20, 23 for closing the fingers 16 on to the jaws 30, 31 and the jaws on to the tube, shoulders 36, 37 on the fingers and jaws for preventing axial displacement of the jaws, and a cone 40 movably carried by the yoke 12 for flaring the tube-end. The clamp includes a nickel strap 17 surrounding the fingers 16, and a pad 23 applied against them by a screw 20. An oblong retaining ring 32 by which the jaws 30, 31 are inserted in the socket has longitudinal limbs 34 engaging slots 33 in the jaws. The jaws may be screwthreaded to improve grip and may be clear of the tube at their lower end and have a conical die-recess (not shown) at their upper end. The yoke 12 and retainer 32 may be made of synthetic resin.
