Abstract

1441844 Multicolour intaglio web-fed rotary press SAUERESSIG GmbH 20 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59255/73 Addition to 1245204 Heading B6C A multicolour intaglio rotary web-fed press is enclosed in a housing having a top removable cover and front and rear vertically pivoted gates, the gate at the front carrying the inking units whilst the base of the housing, the interior of which during operaton of the press, is subjected to vacuum, incorporates gas vent means to withdraw vapour from the interior. As shown in Fig. 1 a web 22 to beprintedis fed downwardly and exits through slit 15 in the rear gate. Each colour is applied by a unit comprising hydraulically loaded backing roller 36, impression cylinder 26 printing cylinder 24, ink trough 32 and doctor blade 34. The latter is so mounted that it may be swung away from its cylinder 24 and the blade and the trough are hydraulically movable into their printing positions. After the web leaves each printing unit it passes over heaters 40 and around a gas permeable cylinder 38 from which radially issues hot gas. This medium ensures no web contact with the cylinder at the same time driving off the solvent in the ink. All vapour is recoverable through the unit means 82, 84, 86, 88. To enable ready access to the front of the press horizontally pivoted transparent closure members 72 are arranged in the front gate.
