Abstract
1441821 Pressing wound turns onto package BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 23 April 1974 [20 March 1973] 13275/73 Heading D1J A winding machine of the kind having a contact roller 1 that is in friction contact with the surface of the yarn package 6 is characterised in that the roller 1 comprises cylindrical end sections 2, 3 that are larger in diameter than the middle section 4 of the roller. The contact length 22 of each of the sections 2, 3 with the package 6, in at least three times the arc height 7 of the yarn at the strokereversal zones. The arc height is defined as the difference between the actual and ideal yarn reversal points. The cylindrical end sections 2, 3 may have end portions 30, 31 that decrease in diameter towards the middle section 4. In Fig. 6 the end portions 30, 31 are of truncated form but they may, alternatively, be in the form of segments of a sphere, or a paraboloid or the like. The diameter of the middle section 4 may decrease from the ends towards the middle. The cylindrical end sections 2, 3 may have a profile machined into their surface, for example a diamond-like pattern, a helical pattern of low pitch, or a pattern of circular co-axial rings. The contact roller 1 may transmit the entire torque required to drive the package 6; part of the torque required; or zero torque. In Fig. 10 the roller 1 is driven by a synchronous motor 49. A motor 36 drives the package 6. Circuitry 50, 51 between the two motors ensures that the torque applied by the package 6 to the contact roller 1 is equal to zero. In Fig. 11 the contact roller 1 carries a magnetic insert 53 that acts on an induction coil 52. The resulting pulse train is converted into a signal V and is compared at 55 with an adjustable signal S representing the peripheral speed of the package or determined by the rate of yarn travel. Through the differential signal D, the speed of the motor 36 is reduced until the differential signal is equal to zero. In Fig. 1 a vertically displaceable carriage 18 carries a traversing yarn guide 11, a guide roller 15 provided with yarn guide grooves 23 extending over the entire stroke range of the traversing yarn guide, or, alternatively, only in the terminal zones of the roller; and the contact roller 1 with its cylindrical end sections 2, 3. The yarn coming from the guide roller 15 runs onto the package 6 before it is contacted by the end sections 2, 3. The weight of the carriage 18 may be partly compensated by pneumatic cylinders (38), Fig. 8 (not shown). As the carriage 18 rises, due to the increase in diameter of the package 6, the moving carriage 18 may, after layers amounting to a few mm in thickness have been applied to the empty tube 8, actuate a valve (47) to allow a higher pressure to be admitted to the cylinder (38) thus further compensating the weight of the carriage. When the package has been fully wound the carriage 18 actuates a further valve (46) to cause the cylinder (38) to receive a pressure sufficiently high to lift the carriage off the package.
