Abstract

1441597 Electro-forming matrices FRITZ BUSER A G MASCHINENFABRIK 23 Nov 1973 [28 Nov 1972] 54540/73 Heading C7B A matrix for manufacturing lattice or grid or mesh metal network having openings of predetermined shape and size by electro-deposition of metal e.g. Ni and its removal, e.g. a filter or patterned sieve for screen printing, is made by making depressions e.g. embossing grooves 6, 18 in the surface of a base body 5 and filling with conductive material 10, 15, 19 to form conductive portions of shape, size and surface distribution corresponding to the solid portions of the network, the surface extending between the conductive material being covered with a layer of insulating material 13, 17 e.g. lacquer or resin to form non-conductive portions corresponding to the interstitial openings between the solid portions. The base body may be a metal cylinder having a surface of Cu brass or soft steel made smooth by grinding or electropolishing. A metal layer 8 e.g. of hard chrome may be electro-deposited on to the entire surface of the body after the depressions 6 have been formed therein Fig. 5, metal removed from those portions 9 without depressions e.g. by grinding, then base body material removed by etching, the entire surface may be covered with the insulating material 13 and sufficient covering removed e.g. by grinding to expose chrome strips 10 and provide a smooth surface, Fig. 9, ready for Ni electro-deposition of the network and its removal. Alternatively the base body with depressions 6 may be selectively covered on portions 9 with an insulating material e.g. lacquer 14 by gravure printing, then metal 15 e.g. Ni or Cr electro-deposited to fill the depressions Fig. 11. In a third embodiment Fig. 16, metal 19 e.g. Ni or Cr is electro-deposited to fill V-grooves 18 impressed in a polished body 5 previously covered with insulating material 17, which is removed and replaced by an insulating layer to form a smooth surface.
