Abstract

1441475 Buckle anchorages FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 31 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 04503/74 Heading E2A A safety belt buckle for vehicles comprises a housing 2 connected to a cable 5 attachable to a vehicle a detent 3 within the housing for retaining a buckle tongue 1 the detent being connected by a deformable or compressible element to the cable and relative movement between the detent and cable occurring in the event of increased tension in the belt triggers a timer unit which after a predetermined delay actuates a release mechanism for the detent. The cable 5 has a slot 7 for a rivet 8 secured to the housing, the rivet being surrounded by a compressible or deformable material 6. The cable has a projection 11 which contacts a projection 10 to actuate a timer 9 when the material 6 is compressed or deformed on sudden deceleration of the vehicle after a preset delay of 20 or 30 seconds and an element 12 actuates the release mechanism 4 which may be a push button. The timer unit may comprise clockwork mechanism or an electrical circuit and may actuate the release mechanism mechanically or electromagnetically.
