Abstract

1441385 Seat belt NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 28 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 9122/74 Heading A3V A seat belt 20, 22 anchored solely to the seat 12 is tightened in an emergency by means of a cylinder or cylinders filled with pressurized gas mounted within the seat. In the embodiment shown the ends of the lap and shoulder belts are fixed to pistons in opposite ends of a cylinder 52. The chambers at each end are filled with a pressurized gas. The centre of the chamber is filled with oil or pressurized gas which is vented in the event of an emergency. In an alternative embodiment each end of the belt is tightened by an individual cylinder.
