Abstract

1441172 Compression moulding RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 8 May 1974 [18 April 1973] 18761/73 Heading B5A Compression moulding apparatus, e.g. for producing riser sleeves, includes a mould 32 to which slurried material is fed from a measuring chamber 82 having means for measuring a predetermined quantity of material therein and for interrupting the supply of material thereto. The material is compressed between a mould closure 40 and a collar 26 secured to a piston 25 driven vertically by a ram, not shown. The closure is locked to the mould by members 45 on the closure which are brought, by closure rotation, into engagement with elements 51 on the mould. Material is fed to the chamber 82 by a valve which is automatically closed pneumatically when a predetermined quantity has been supplied and measured by an element when senses the height of material in the chamber. Such material passes from the chamber into the mould via passage 81, port 35 and a valve, and is urged therethrough by compressed air automatically fed to the chamber when the material inlet valve is closed. After compression the closure 40 is unlocked by a mechanism which is lowered and rotated pneumatically, such mechanism including a rotary head with bifurcated member 69 brought into engagement with lugs 46 on the members 45. The framework of the apparatus may include two moulding assemblies as described operating alternately.
