Abstract

1441054 Pulleys P G RYAN 30 May 1974 23966/74 Heading F2Q A pulley for a V-belt comprises a disc 4 having two flanges 2, 3 defining a V-shaped peripheral groove 5, one or both flanges being provided with a series of replaceable inset members, forming inwardly facing projections 12 at circumferentially spaced intervals, for exerting lateral local pressure on a belt running under tension in the groove. The projections may be arranged in directly-opposed pairs, Fig. 2, or may be staggered, Fig. 4. The projection heads 12 are rectangular in plan, and have a wedge-like triangular cross-section which may be of various forms (Figs. 6-12, not shown) each of which presents a ridge which becomes oriented radially to the pulley axis. The inset members each have a shank 11 of rectangular cross-section, inserted through a correspondingly shaped aperture 10, and may be riveted in place, the riveted portion 11a being removed by grinding whenever replacement of a worn inset member is required.
