Abstract

1440593 Separating particles from fluid; centrifugal separators DRESSER INDUSTRIES INC 17 May 1973 [12 June 1972]48257/75 Divided out of 1440592 Headings B1D and B2P Apparatus for separating particles from fluid comprises means for separating particles (e.g. oil) which are lighter than the fluid and means for separating particles which are heavier than the fluid, the latter means comprising substantially radial screen assemblies 24 carried by rotatable housing 10, inlet duct 18, ducts 42 for discharging concentrate which has passed under centrifugal action along the screen assemblies 24, to common duct 44, and ducts 36 for discharging filtered fluid to container 40. The screen assemblies 24 may comprise screens 28, 30 supported by an internal structure comprising a grooved plate and two screens. The heavy particle separating means may be located downstream of a light particle separating means which uses chemicals. Alternatively the apparatus of Fig. 1 may be modified to include a duct 130 (Fig. 5A) for separating light particles from the housing 10. The heavy particle separating means may comprise horizontal or frusto-conical screens. The screens may be made of woven stainless steel, cellulose acetate, polyethylene or nylon.
