Abstract

1440581 Crane safe load indicators B & A ENG CO Ltd 2 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 5269/72 Heading B8B [Also in Division G1] A safe load system for a crane or other lifting device having an extensible boom 1 comprises a first electrical signal generating means in the form of a strain gauge load transducer 4 providing a signal representative of the load on the crane, second electrical signal generating means in the form of a boom angle sensor and load low friction generator 7 including potentiometers 13a, 13b, 13c having respectively applied there to voltages representing maximum safe loads for respective boom lengths of 20ft., 30 ft. and 40ft. and cam 12 and follower mechanisms responsive to the angle of inclination of the boom and which control the potentiometer outputs to provide a signal which is a function of boom angle and boom length, third signal generating means, producing a signal representative of boom length, a load low function interpolator 8 combining the signals produced by the second and third signal generating means and producing a signal representative of safe load and a comparator 6 comparing the safe load representing signal and the signal from the first signal generating means. A visible and/or audible warning may be provided.
