Abstract

1440237 Burners with ultrasonic fuel atomiizers MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 29 June 1973 [4 July 1972 (2) 19 July 1972 28 July 1972] 31010/73 Heading F4T A burner comprises a casing (11, Fig. 1 (not shown) and an outer air duct 2 fixed to the casing, an outwardly frustoconical hollow atomizer body 5 coupled to an ultrasonic vibrator (4) and having a fuel outlet duct 14 opening at its downstream end, and an inner air duct 3 separating an outer air diffuser having vanes 6 from an inner air diffuser having vanes 7, the downstream end of the inner diffuser not extending downstrreamwards beyond the downstream ends of the outer diffuser and the body 5, and the downstream end of the body 5 not extending downstreamwards beyond the downstream end of the outer diffuser. To obtain optimum combustion conditions the components are located so that (a) L/4<e<L/2, where e is the distance between the upstream ends of duct 3 and vanes 7, and L is the axial length of the vanes 7; (b) O#m#M, where M is the distance between the downstream ends of the duct 3 and vanes 7, and m is the distance between the downstream ends of duct 3 and body 5; and (c) D/S = 7 to 12, P/D = 3 to 6 and P/S = 35 to 60, where D is the flow cross-sectional area of the inner diffuser, P is the flow cross-sectional area of the outer diffuser, and S is the area of an annulus between the periphery of the downstream end of body 5 and the inner diffuser.
