Abstract

1440229 Offshore structures S HEIEN 31 July 1973 [14 Aug 1972] 36366/73 Heading E1H An offshore structure for, e.g. storing gas or oil comprises a plurality of containers 1 which are connected together axially to form a number of elongate cylinders which are joined together in an array, columns 2 on the top of some of the cylinders supporting a platform 3, the bottoms of the lower containers having polygonal, e.g. hexagonal flanges, the cylinders being connected by means comprising a plurality of spaced steel loops 8 which overlap and are secured by vertical rods 9. These loops and rods are then encased in concrete cast into the space defined by shuttering 10. The lower cylinders preferably have depending skirts, Fig. 1, and the columns 2 may be telescopic. The flanges have projecting tension members 7 which are interconnected in recesses which are then filled with cast concrete. The space formed between upper and lower cylinders may have distribution means for compressed air and ballast water used during raising or sinking of the structure.
