Abstract

1439574 Packaging for articles which are sensitive to pressure W KUNNEMANN and INSTITUT DR FRIESEWINKEL AG 15 May 1974 21421/74 Heading B8C A packaging for the storage of articles which are sensitive to pressure, such as cigarettes, chocolates &c., comprises a plurality of detachably-connected individual pockets 40, each of which accommodates one of the articles in a substantially loose, or movable, manner the walls, with the exception of one wall of each pocket, being substantially stable in shape whereas the one wall is formed by a flexible sheet which is detachable, each pocket being elongate and cylindrical, or part cylindrical, in cross-section, the side wall and a closed end of each pocket being substantially stable in shape, and a mouth at the other end being closed by the flexible sheet which is adapted to be detached. As shown in Fig. 1, a plurality of rigid cylindrical pockets 40 are deep drawn in a sheet of synthetic plastics material, the upper surface 44 of which is covered by a flexible foil 46, made, e.g. of silver, or metal paper or, alternatively of synthetic plastics material. Coinciding perforated lines of weakness 48, 50 are formed respectively in the foil 46 and surface 44 between adjacent pockets 40 to facilitate separation of the latter, the foil being removable by pulling either a tab 52 longitudinally or, a tab 54 transversely, of a row of pockets. The packaging may be made of transparent material, the foil 46 being secured to the surface 44 by welding under pressure at 56 and/or by adhesive. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5, the pockets 40, formed by welding together two halves of deep drawn synthetic material at (62) are interconnected, throughout their lengths, by crosspieces (60) having perforated lines of weakness (50). The pockets in the latter arrangement may be constructed in one piece. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the pockets (40) are of semi-cylindrical shape and have a common flat lateral side (66) which can be printed. The pockets (40), Figs. 9-11 (not shown), are bridged by narrow connecting pieces (70). Extensions (74) and (80, 82), Figs. 12 and 19 (not shown), can also be used to connect the pockets (40). In another arrangement the pockets (40) are connected solely by the covering foil (46), Fig. 16 (not shown). Individual pockets 40 are detachably interconnected by press-button connectors 76, Figs. 13, 14, the whole packaging being covered along the sides by a foil 84. A foil (46) of double construction, is located between a pair of opposing rows of pockets (40, 40), Fig. 22 (not shown).
