Abstract

1439288 Preventing erosion C G DORIS (COMPAGNIE GENERAL POUR LES DEVELOPPEMENTS OPERATIONNELS DES RICHESSES SOUS-MARINES) 29 Aug 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 40563/73 Heading E1H To prevent erosion and undermining of the foundation of a wholly or partly submerged object 1 it is surrounded by a perforate wall 2, whose perforations 4a, 4b, 4c are shaped to enhance the flow of water towards the object 1 near its base, or enhance the flow of water away from the object in a zone above the base of the object or both. To achieve this the perforations are convergently tapered in the desired direction of flow. In another arrangement Figs. 4-6 (not shown), perforated walls are located on each side of an underwater pipeline resting on the sea bed, or box-like assemblies having perforated side walls are located around support-blocks on which the pipe is supported at intervals.
