Abstract

1438746 Producing flock WEST POINTPEPPERELL INC 29 Oct 1974 [29 Jan 1974] 46675/74 Headings D1F and D1R A tow 10 is scoured and rinsed in tanks 18-24, cut whilst wet by cutter 38 to form flock, the flock slurried with a liquid containing a finishing agent, separated from the liquid and dried. The tow may be of nylon, polyester, rayon, acrylic or natural fibres. The tow is drawn through tensioning eye 12, over spreader bars 14 and through tanks 18-24. Framework 32 mounts rollers 30 which can be pressed against drive rollers 26. Tank 18 contains soap, soda ash and a solvent and tanks 20, 22, 24 contain rinsing media and tanks being at 180‹F. The 3 wet tows from a plurality of storage receptacles 34 are indexed forwards by pull rolls and cut by rotary or guillotine cutter 38 into 2mm flock. Contrary to Fig. 2 the flock is then slurried with a hot aqueous solution of waterglass plus a quaternary fatty acid derivative. The flock is removed by a screen and passed through the apparatus of Fig. 5 to remove additional water in the compression chamber The moist fibres are then introduced into a duct 42' corresponding to duct 42 of Fig. 2 in which hot air flows due to blower 46 and heater 44. The hot air dries the flock and carries it to pin mill 50 which breaks up clusters of flock. In cyclone 54 centrifugal force separates the flock from the air stream.
