Abstract

1438303 Cementitious hardenable composition I U CONVERSION SYSTEMS Inc 17 Nov 1973 53469/73 Heading C1H A cementitious, hardenable composition comprises an aqueous suspension of 30-90 wt. per cent solids, the solids comprising in wt. per cent 0À25 to 70 alkaline earth metal hydroxide, 10 to 99À5 flyash and 0À25 to 70 alkaline earth metal sulphite. The composition is preferably prepared by (a) passing SO 2 -containing flue gases which also contain fly ash into an aqueous slurry of calcium hydroxide to produce a slurry of calcium sulphite, calcium hydroxide and fly ash, and diluting the slurry to produce the required solids content, or (b) treating an aqueous slurry of hydroxide that has been used to treat waste furnace gases containing sulphur oxides with fly ash and fresh hydroxide to give the required composition. The composition may in addition contain alkaline earth, e.g. Ca sulphate and magnesium oxide (dolomitic monohydrate).
