Abstract

1438240 Web dispensers STERLING DRUG Inc 19 March 1974 [4 April 1973] 12181/74 Heading B8M A dispenser, from which a web, e.g. of a towel or tissue, is manually withdrawn and separated into single sheets at perforations therein, comprises a container having an opening providing for untensioned passage of the web therethrough and a closure element movable from a position which permits such passage to a position which so covers the opening as to permit only passage of the web under tension caused by friction between the web and the edges of the closure element and the opening. The web positively separates leaving the tip of the remaining web available for subsequent withdrawal. In use of the dispenser shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the web passes from a container and through a captive closure cap 18 therefor by way of a restrictive aperture provided by an apex 50 formed by legs 42, 44 of a hinged flap 38 which covers a triangular opening 32 and is secured in operative position by snap lugs 46 (and freed therefrom to enable initial positioning of the web). The flap may be semicircular and close a similarly shaped opening to form a slit which enables abstraction of the web under tension, Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 9, the withdrawn web is tensioned by its tortuous course between overlapping flap 38<SP>11</SP> and opening 32<SP>11</SP> edges.
