Abstract
1436373 Moulding tyres FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO 29 May 1973 [8 June 1972] 25614/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] Tyres are produced by a method which comprises (I) placing into the tread portion of a centrifugal tyre mould an uncured polyurethane generating tyre tread composition comprising (A) an elastomer precursor which is a polyhydroxylated polymer derived from a polymer of one or more C 4-6 conjugated dienes, a copolymer of such dienes with vinyl aromatic monomers or a polyether, (B) a polyisocyanate, (C) a peroxide and (D) 35 to 200 parts per 100 parts by weight of (A), (B) and (C) of carbon black or silica as reinforcing pigment, the NCO/OH ratio in the uncured composition being at least 0À5 and components (A) and (B) constituting at least 25 per cent by weight of the composition, (II) thereafter centrifugally casting a polyurethane tyre body composition on top of said tread and (III) subjecting the composite of tyre body and tread to curing conditions. Reinforcing cords or plies may be placed over the tread before casting the body, or short reinforcing filaments may be compounded with the tread stock. In Example 2 tyres are obtained by curing composites produced by centrifugally casting tyre body compositions comprising isocyanate terminated polytetrahydrofuran, silicone oil, epoxy resin, carbon black, di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate and methylene bis orthochloroaniline on to treads formed from compositions comprising hydroxyl-terminated butadiene/styrene copolymer, toluene diisocyanate, carbon black, zinc oxide, processing oil, 4,41-methylene-bis-(2,6-di-t-butylphenol) dibutyl tin dilaurate and dicumyl peroxide.
