Abstract

1436273 Variable-ratio gearing KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 18 Jan 1974 [20 Jan 1973] 02470/74 Heading F2D [Also in Division F1] In an engine driven compressor the gear ratio between the engine and the compressor can be changed without undue alteration to the parts thereof. This is achieved by making the journal 15, on which the compressor driving gear 13 rotates, pivotable about an eccentric stud 16, the journal being retained in the desired position by a pin 19 inserted through a selected one of a plurality of bores 18 in the journal 15 into a bore 18a in the crankcase 1. Thus depending on which bore 18 is selected will depend the distance a between the crank-shaft gear 20 or a gear driven thereby and the driving gear 13 in mesh therewith. Appropriate selection of the gears 13, 20 for the distance a gives the desired gear ratio. A bolt 17 screwed into the crankcase 1 holds the journal 15 in position. A disc 11 with an eccentric stud 12 for the piston-rod 10 is secured by bolts 14 to the gear 13. To compensate for the different journal positions shim washers 21 are positioned between a flange 7 on the compressor cylinder 6 and the crank case surface surrounding an opening 8 for the passage of the cylinder 6 into the crankcase.
