Abstract
1435744 Ampholytic mixtures of organophosphorus compounds N GRUBHOFER 30 April 1973 [23 June 1972] 20478/73 Addition to 1402751 Heading C2P The invention comprises an ampholytic material which is a mixture of ampholytes which contain at least 4 primary, secondary, tertiary or quaternary amino groups and at least one phosphonic acid group or a mixture of phosphonic acid and sulphonic acid groups optionally also together with carboxylic acid groups, the ratio of basic to acidic groups being different in different ampholytes. The material is prepared by reacting an aqueous polyamine solution with an aqueous solution containing a phosphonic acid or salt thereof and optionally a sulphonic acid or salt thereof and optionally reacting the product with a carboxylic acid. The polyamine used may first be alkylated. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst or antioxidant and the products may be recovered by treatment with a cation exchange resin.
