Abstract

1435335 Applying transfers A E WARNBERG 13 Nov 1973 52631/73 Heading B6C In a method and apparatus for heat and pressure transfer of a plastisol decalcomania image from a substrate to a pile fabric, only the portion of the substrate carrying the image is heated and pressed and the remainder of the fabric is kept free of compressive forces and maintained at a temperature below the softening point of the fabric fibres. The preferred apparatus comprises a heated platen assembly 18 having a heated plate 22 on to which is clipped a member 52 which contacts the heated plate and is of the same shape as the image 38 and is surrounded by an insulating layer 50. In another embodiment the surface of the member 52 may have grooves in it which match non- image areas and contain insulating material. The substrate and transfer material may be registered by means of pins in the base 16 which engage holes in member 52.
