Abstract

1434738 Porous fibrous compositions MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd 6 Aug 1973 [8 Aug 1972] 36983/72 Headings C1J and C1A A porous fibrous mass is obtained by bringing inorganic fibres into contact with a solution or suspension comprising a zirconium compound and a liquid and then heating to produce zirconia bonding the fibres. The compound can be Zr primate, acetate, oxychloride, hydroxychloride, oxynitrate, hydroxynitrate or sulphate, octoate, polycarboxylate or NH 4 zirconium carbonate. Ca, Yt or Mg oxides on their precursors (e.g. nitrates) and sols of SiO 2 , TiO 2 , ZrO 2 , Al 2 O 3 and zirconyl nitrate are optionals. Fibres specified are asbestos, aluminosilicate, glass, SiO 2 , C, ZrO 2 , rocks, slag, Al 2 O 3 , zircon or Ca silicate. I.C. engine exhaust gases can be passed through the mass to remove lead compounds.
