Abstract
1434566 Rotary internal combustion engines A E DE DOBO 1 Oct 1973 45824/73 Heading Fl F A rotary internal combustion engine comprises a 3-lobed piston mounted for planetary motion within an epitrochoidal 4-lobed cavity such that each working chamber undergoes two working cycles of induction, compression, combustion and exhaust for one revolution of the piston relative to the housing, the correct transmission ratio between the piston and shaft being effected by gearing. Gear 24 on shaft 14 meshes with a planetary gear 25 rotatably mounted on the piston eccentric 27, and internally toothed gears 28, 29 on the piston 13 and housing 11 also mesh with gear 25. Each working chamber 15 undergoes two cycles, each cycle includes inducting fuel/air mixture through a port 21, compressing it for ignition by a plug 17A, the power stroke being followed by exhaust through port 21 C prior to the beginning of the second cycle in which induction is through port 21 A. Cooling and lubrication ducts are also shown. Engines with 3 or more cycles are also envisaged.
