Abstract

1433640 Laminated tape CHASE CORP 24 July 1973 [24 July 1972] 35283/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] A tape for bedding and binding an electrical cable comprises a glass fibre backing sheet or strip 22 of open network construction, a continuous polyester film 24 co-extensive with the backing sheet or strip and a synthetic rubber or plastics based adhesive 26 bonding the film to the sheet or strip. The tape may be made by coating the film with the adhesive, juxtaposing the coated face of the film opposite the coextensive sheet or strip and urging the film and the sheet or strip together in a drying oven with the sheet or strip being maintained under a different lengthwise tension compared with the film. The film may be of polyethylene terephthalate and the adhesive may be an acrylic resin, a polyurethane, an acrylic monomer/ vinyl chloride copolymer or a terpolymer of butadiene, acrylonitrile and a carboxyl containing olefinic monomer.
