Abstract
1432964 Binocular telescopes CARL ZEISS-STIFTUNG 27 June 1973 [6 July 1972 5 April 1973] 30714/73 Heading G2J The connecting bridge has either a single axis of articulation Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) which is parallel to and offset from the telescope axes and offset from the centre of the bridge or Figs, 1, 9 and 17 two parallel, spaced axes of articulation. Each telescope system includes an axially movable focusing element 7 Fig. 1 or 70 Fig. 17 and means for guiding it during focusing displacement. An externally exposed drive element 4 Fig. 1 is provided. In one embodiment Fig. 1, drive wheel 4 causes the objective lens mount 6 of each telescope to be displaced axially via screw threads. A pin 9 fixed in the telescope housing 1 prevents the mount 6 from rotating. A rubber seal 11 is provided between the housing 1 and mount 6. In one modification Fig. 12 (not shown) the objective is fixed and an additional convex lens 70 is displaced by a screw mechanism. In other modifications Figs. 4 and 10 (not shown) the drive wheel (17) is mounted about the hinge pin between one of the telescopes and the intermediate bridge, and is therefore not central. In yet another modification, Fig. 23 (not shown) the hinge-pin of each telescope serves as the guide pin which prevents rotation of the movable lens mount. In another embodiment Fig. 17 the mount 6 for each movable lens 70 is displaced by means of a rack-and-pinion mechanism 42, 41, the drive wheel of which rotates about an axis perpendicular to the optical axes. Instead of a rack-and-pinion, a cam disc and pin Fig. 21 (not shown) or a direct sliding arrangement Fig. 24 (not shown) may be used. The eye-pieces may be adjustable (e.g. Fig. 1) or not (e.g. Fig. 17).
