Abstract
1432805 Photographic colour diffusion transfer process using a non-fluorescent whitener POLAROID CORP 16 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 18136/73 Heading G2C A photographic product comprises layers forming a laminate, or that are attached to one another and are capable of forming a laminate, the laminate comprising in superposed relationship a transparent support, an image receiving layer and at least one silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a dye image-providing substance, the product comprising also a light-reflecting layer of light reflecting material between the image receiving and silver halide layers or means for forming such a layer, and in which the components of the product are such as to result in the formation of a colour stain upon aging, and in which a non-fluorescent optical whitening reagent is included in the product in a position such that after dye image formation it is uniformly distributed in the light-reflecting layer or on the same side or the light-reflecting layer as the image receiving layer, the whitening agent being capable of absorbing visible light within a predetermined wavelength range complementary to the wavelength range absorbed by the colour stain and being present in a concentration such that the light reflected from the D min areas of the transfer image visually appears white initially and after aging. An aqueous alkaline processing composition comprises a viscosity-increasing reagent, a light reflecting agent and a non-fluorescent optical whitening reagent capable of absorbing visible light within a predetermined wavelength range, the whitening reagent being uniformly dispersed in the composition in a concentration such that a layer of the composition 0À0025 inch thick has an optical reflection density not exceeding 0À04 density units. The optical whitening reagent may be copper phthalocyanine. Adding colour to the photographic system does not cause any apparent darkening of the highlights. The dye image providing substance may be a colour coupler or a dyedeveloper.
