Abstract

1432692 Substituted phenyl benzoates EASTMAN KODAK CO 26 April 1973 [26 April 1972] 19916/73 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C4 and H3-H5] Nematic liquid crystal compounds of the formula where R 5 and R 8 each represent R<SP>1</SP>-, R<SP>1</SP>O-, R<SP>1</SP>S- (where R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl or alkenyl), halogen, -CN or -NO 2 , and R 1 -R 4 , R 6 and R 7 are each H, Me, MeO, Et, -CN or halogen, are prepared by reacting the appropriate benzoyl chloride and phenyl p-hydroxybenzoate, e.g. in pyridine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,346,874.
