Abstract

1432087 Hydroxynitroanthraquinones BAYER AG 24 May 1974 [26 May 1973] 23324/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] In Example 1 a mixture of 1-hydroxy-4- bromo-6- and -7-nitroanthraquinones is prepared by reacting a mixture of 1,6- and 1,7- dinitroanthraquinones with calcium oxide in tetramethylene sulphone at 180-190‹ C. and then brominating the 1-hydroxy-6- and -7-nitroanthraquinone formed in the 4-position using oleum and bromine. A mixture of 1-hydroxy- 4,6 - dinitro - and 1 - hydroxy - 4,7 - dinitroanthraquinones is prepared by nitrating a mixture of 1-hydroxy-6- and 1-hydroxy-7-nitroanthraquinones. In Example 2, hydroxynitrobromoanthraquinones are prepared by brominating 1- hydroxynitroanthraquinone using bromine in monohydrate and the hydroxynitroanthraquinone is prepared by reacting dinitroanthraquinone with calcium oxide at 150‹ C. in N- methylpyrrolidone. In Example 4 1-hydroxy-2,4-dibromo-5- nitroanthraquinone is prepared by dibrominating 1 - hydroxy - 5 - nitroanthraquinone with bromine in 20% oleum. In Example 9 1 - hydroxy - 4 - chloro - 6 nitroanthraquinone is prepared by chlorinating 1-hydroxy-6-nitroanthraquinone in 7% oleum using gaseous chlorine. The 2,4-dichloroderivative is also obtained.
