Abstract
1431859 Driving harvester feed conveyors WHITE MOTOR CORP OF CANADA Ltd 20 July 1973 [25 July 1972] 34712/73 Heading A1F [Also in Division F2] Crop is fed from a crop gathering head 10, Fig. 1, into a combine harvester by means of an inclined chain conveyor 17 that is spaced from the bottom wall of an inclined elongate housing 16. The conveyor is mounted on an upper main drive shaft 20, a variable speed countershaft 101, Fig. 2, and a lower idler shaft 21, Fig. 1, which is mounted for limited movement to and from the housing bottom wall so as to allow the belt to accommodate abnormally high loads. The housing is mounted for pivoting by hydraulic 23. The Variable Speed Mechanism Power from the main power unit is transmitted via pulley 70, Figs. 2 and 3 to the inner shaft 60 of two concentric shafts 60, 61, the outer of which supports chains 34, 34'. From the inner shaft 60 the drive is transmitted via pulley 72, belt 98, Fig. 2, variable speed countershaft 101, chain 121, sprocket 71 and outer shaft extension 66, Fig. 3 to the outer shaft 61 to drive the chain conveyor 17. The variable speed countershaft 101 also drives main shaft 124 via belt 123 to drive a transverse crop feed auger 127, Fig. 1. To change the speed of the chain conveyor a lever plate 90, Fig. 3 is moved hydraulically to rotate outer hub 82 an amount sufficient to cause a desired change in the camming between the outer hub and an inner hub 83. The resultant axially inward or outward movement of the inner hub 83 changes the relative position of pulley half 80 with respect to pulley half 75. This alters the tension in belt 98, Fig. 2 and hence the relative positions of the pulley halves which make up variable speed pulley 100. The inner movable half of pulley 100 is biassed outwardly by compression spring 114. Alteration of chain belt elevation The ends of idler shaft 21, Fig. 1 pass through slotted openings 43, Fig. 8, in the housing side walls with clearance and are fixed in blocks 44 which can slide on rods 45 against springs 48. The rods are pivoted on pins 47 in blocks 46. Abnormally high load conditions cause the idler shaft to rise in the slots 43 against the bias of springs 48.
