Abstract

1431698 Heat exchangers; regenerative air heating ATOMENERGI AB 6 April 1973 [6 April 1972] 16649/73 Headings F4S and F4V A heat exchanger used for heating air to be supplied to a building comprises a pair of helically wound plastics heating tubes 1a and 1b located in the annular space 14 formed between inner and outer cylindrical walls 2 and 3, and a bundle of tubes 9a disposed within the inner cylindrical wall 2 and through which warm discharge air from the building is passed to preheat cold fresh air entering the heat exchanger through an inlet 30. The cold fresh air which flows in counter current to the warm discharge air is thereafter further heated on passing over the helical heating tubes 1a, 1b before leaving the exchanger via an outlet connection (15, Fig. 2) to be distributed to various parts of the building via ducting (32); a fan (16) driven by a motor (33) is arranged in the outlet connection (15). Hot water is supplied to one end of the helical tubes 1a, 1b from a container 6 and is discharged from the other end into a return conduit 23. The tubes 1a, 1b are provided with circumferentially extending corrugations, and the tubes are supported in a spaced apart relationship by means of a plurality of longitudinally extending plastics strips 17a, 17b provided with notches 17c. Preferably all the constructional parts of the heat exchanger are made of plastics materials.
