Abstract

1430434 Silicon steel sheet NIPPON STEEL CORP 11 Oct 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 47486/73 Heading B3A The production of grain-oriented electrical steel sheet comprises hot rolling a silicon steel comprising not less than 2% Si, 0À010 to 0À045% acid soluble Al and 0À0030 to 0À0095% N, hot-working the hot-rolled steel at a reduction rate of 3 to 20% at a temperature of from 700‹ to 900‹ C., and holding the steel at a temperature within the range 700‹ to 900‹ C. for not less than 2 seconds, cold rolling the steel to the required final thickness of sheet, and annealing the cold rolled sheet at a high temperature to effect secondary recrystallization. The hot rolling is effected by a multistand hot rolling mill with the hot working being effected by the last stand of the mill, preferably at a temperature of from 720‹ to 830‹ C. Alternatively, roller levellers may be used for the hot working step. The steel is held in this temperature range by delaying the cooling of the steel after it has left the last stand of the mill. In an example, a steel containing 3À05% Si, 0À023% Al, 0À0063% N was hot-rolled and given 10% reduction at the final mill stand at a finishing temperature of 830-850‹ C. The steel was water cooled after 4 seconds after leaving the stand and coiled at 500‹ C. or below. The steel was then coldrolled, subjected to decarburizing annealing in wet hydrogen at 830‹ C. for 3 minutes and to high temperature annealing at 1200‹ C. for 20 hours.
