Abstract

1429920 Laminated corrugated board I D Inc 18 Dec 1974 54783/74 Heading B5N Corrugated paperboard is made by applying a gel paint depressant to the exposed flute tips of the medium by contact means, applying an adhesive by roller, the coating thereon being of sufficiently greater thickness than the applied depressant coating to be split into an adhesive coating on the flute tips and an adhesive coating on the roller which isolates the depressant from the roller, and applying a board layer to the coated tips before the exposed adhesive surface has substantially gelled. The adhesive may be a starch suspension containing over 40 wt. per cent solids and the depressant may be a 50% sodium hydroxide solution, which may be applied by roller. The residual coating on the adhesive roller is recycled. The medium and board may be preheated by drums and may be pressed together between steam chests and a belt. The medium may be a single-faced board, for the manufacture of double-faced and paired single-faced board, or both the medium and board may be single-faced and may be combined with a liner to form multi-wall board.
