Abstract

1429821 Automatic control of electrostatic charge IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 5236/73 Heading G3R [Also in Division H1] The magnitude and sign of a charge applied by a corona charging device 26 (see Division H1) to a polypropylene film 21 is controlled by a bias voltage applied to a roller 23. A probe 27 senses the original charge density on the film and the output from an associated electrometer 28 is fed to a summing amplifier 29. A second probe 30 senses the integrated charge density on roll 24 and the output signal from an associated electrometer 31 is differentiated in differentiator 32 and fed to summing amplifier 29 which applies a bias voltage to roller 23 such as to maintain the accumulated charge density in roll 24 at zero or an acceptably low value. The system may be modified to utilize a single probe.
