Abstract

1429017 Printers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 5 Sept 1973 [21 Sept 1972] 41641/73 Heading G4H In an ink jet printer, charging of a given ink drop is modified to compensate for the effect of at least one preceding drop upon the given drop. The modification may be by adding to the charging voltage, weighted versions of the charging voltages applied to preceding drops, obtained from delays. Alternatively, a staircase voltage is applied to a voltage divider, a tap or taps of which are selected by the stages of a shift register to feed an analogue OR gate which passes the largest of its inputs as the charging voltage. The shift register is fed from a character generator specifying for each position in a character dot matrix whether a drop of ink is required there or not. Alternatively, the modification is obtained by feeding the charging voltage via an RC network the output of which is sampled and held at the precise instant that it gives the correct compensation.
