Abstract

1428837 Timing ignition; ignition systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 20 July 1973 [24 July 1972] 34731/73 Heading F1B A device for controlling the ignition timing in an ignition system of an internal combustion engine, in dependence upon at least one operating parameter of the engine, comprises a storage capacitor 10, a source of charging current 11 for charging the capacitor and a source of discharge current 12 for discharging the capacitor, both of the charging and discharging sources being adapted to be operable responsively to the rotation of a crankshaft of the engine to alternately charge and discharge the capacitor at predetermined angular positions respectively of the crankshaft, the device being operable at a predetermined state of charge of the storage capacitor and during a discharge period of the latter to provide a signal for triggering an ignition operation of the ignition system. The discharge rate of the capacitor is adjustable responsively to at least one operating parameter of the engine. The system comprises an evaluating switching device 14 connected to the storage capacitor for triggering the ignition operation. A controllable semi-conductor switch (not shown) when triggered by the output signal of the evaluating switching device 14 discharges an ignition capacitor by way of a spark gap of a spark plug of the engine. The timing can be controlled according to engine temperature, load and speed, the air temperature and the composition of the exhaust gas of the engine.
