Abstract

1428769 Windscreens NIPPON SHEET GLASS CO Ltd and NIPPON HYDRON CO Ltd 27 Feb 1973 [28 Feb 1972 (2) 11 April 1972 26 June 1972] 9636/73 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions C7 and G2] Motor vehicle windscreens manufactured from or surfaced wtih a polymer to reduce misting, are coated with discrete areas of an inorganic material to improve abrasion resistance. The areas are each 0À04-5À0 Á thick and are of 7 x 10<SP>4</SP> sq. Á or less, the total area covered being 1-95% of the surface. Examples disclose coating windscreen glass with PVA and depositing discrete areas of glass thereon by vacuum evaporation (Example 7); and coating laminated windscreen glass with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and depositing areas of SnO 2 thereon by reactive sputtering (Example 9).
