Single-acting piston-pumps.-Fuel is fed to an internal-combustion engine by a pair of single acting piston pumps placed in line and driven by a cam between. Each pump may be capable of supplying the necessary fuel. As shown, the two pump barrels a, b have suction and delivery valves, and are open to a chamber n which is filled with petrol or stiff grease, so that the pistons are lubricated efficiently. The piston-rods are connected by a bridle within which the cam p rotates. The spindle o has on its inner end a collar r which is held in contact with the end of the bearing by the slight pressure in the chamber n. The chamber may communicate with one of the delivery pipes by a tube t so that it is quickly filled up when the pumps start. Lubricant may be supplied to the spindle bearing by a tube s.
