Abstract
1428401 Papermaking WALMSLEYS (BURY) Ltd 23 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8255/72 Heading D2A To manufacture a paper or board of two or more plies, a first comparatively dry ply is formed on a unit 14 and then caused to undergo a change in direction of greater than 90‹ at B, e.g. at a roll 28, and immediately thereafter applied to a second comparatively wet ply formed on a unit 10 as the second ply travels in a straight path, water then being drawn from the wet ply to the dry ply, e.g. by suction box combination 56a-56c, to bond the plies together. As shown in Fig. 1 the first ply may be a composite ply formed by the union at A of a comparatively wet ply from the unit 14 and a comparatively dry ply from a unit 12, the plies from units 12, 14 being bonded together in an analogous way to the bonding of the plies at B. In a modification, as in Fig. 3, four forming units 10, 12, 14, 60 are positioned one above the next, each supplying a comparatively dry ply to be united with a comparatively wet ply formed on the underlying unit.
