Abstract

1428224 Vehicle safety belts NISSAN MOTOR CO LTD 7 Sept 1973 [9 Sept 1972] 42172/73 Heading A3V A vehicle safety harness comprises at least a shoulder strap 4 or a seat belt 5 which extends in a shock breaking device about movable and fixed pulleys 10, 10' mounted in the side members 8, 8' of a casing 7 through whose ends the strap or belt passes, the pulley 10 being mounted so that, when an exceptional stress is applied to the strap or belt this pulley moves towards pulley 10' in slots 14, 14' so as to deform members 8, 8'. Pulleys 10, 10' are pivotable in holes 12, 12' and 13, 13' in the side memebers 8, 8'. Slots 14, 14' which may be straight or sinuous being connected to holes 12, 12'. The strap passes round the pulleys as shown in Fig. 4 so that, when an exceptional stress is applied to the belt, pulley 10 is pulled into the slots 14, 14' which offer a resistance to its movement.
