Abstract

1427515 Measuring gas concentration electrically TRADE AND INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 30 May 1973 [7 March 1972] 10492/72 Heading G1N An explosive gas detector has a reaction chamber 10 containing a catalyst pellet 14, a valve 12 providing a means for admitting a discrete sample of a gas mixture into the reaction chamber and retaining it sealed therein for a sufficient time to determine the height of the maximum of the temperature characteristic of the catalyst body and also the rate of decrease of the temperature characteristic see Fig. 4 whereby it acts on the catalyst to a sufficient extent to enable the entire effect it is capable of producing in the catalyst pellet to be determined and an integrating measuring means for determining the entire effect and producing an integrated output signal which gives a measure of the total heat of oxidation of the combustible gas in the discrete sample. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) inlet and exhaust apertures and valves are provided. The temperature is sensed by a thermistor or thermocouple.
