Abstract
1427004 Binoculars DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 14 May 1973 [15 Feb 1972] 6936/72 Heading G2J A binocular instrument e.g. telescope, microscope or stereoscope comprises two optical units 10, 12 joined by coupling units 26, 30 and 28, 32 which are spaced apart axially and each have a joint of the ball-and-socket type 38, 40; 52, 54 of which one part the socket in Fig. 1 is mounted eccentrically to allow adjustment of the alignment of the telescopes. In the embodiment shown, casing 22 of unit 10 has arms 26 and 28 while casing 24 of the other unit 12 has arms 30 and 32. Arms 26 and 32 are each provided with a rotatable bush 34, 50 which carries a spherical ball 38, 52 which also seats in a socket 40, 54 formed in a bush 42, 50 carried on the other arm 30, 28. The ball-and-socket joints are eccentric so that, by rotating the bushes 34 and 50, the axes 10A, 12A of the optical units may be collimated.
