Abstract
1426923 D.C. motor circuits LANSING BAGNALL Ltd 6 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 25641/73 Heading H2J A D.C. motor circuit adapted for reversible motor drive and regenerative braking in either direction comprises a series arrangement of the armature between two electrically controlled switches, and two opposing field windings, each arranged in a respective free-wheeling loop which includes a respective free-wheeling diode, the armature of the motor and a respective one of the switches. As shown, the switches are constituted by thyristors 3, 5 and additional diodes 10, 11 are connected respectively between the junctions of the field coils 7, 9 and the freewheeling diodes 6, 8 and the junctions between the armature 4 and the thyristors 3, 5. Switching is controlled by a pulse source 12. For forward driving both thyristors are initially turned on and a substantial armature current is established. Thyristor 5 is then turned off and current circulates in the loop containing diode 8 and field 9. Thyristor 5 is then turned on again to re-establish the armature current and the process is repeated. For locating in the forward direction, from a state when both thyristors are on, thyristor 3 is turned off and thyristor 5 is pulsed, current flowing in the loop including field 7 and diode 10 when thyristor 5 is on, and regeneratively in the circuit 7, 10, 8, 9 when thyristor 5 is off. Reverse driving and braking are effected analogously.
