Abstract

1426474 Tensioning straps THOMAS & BETTS CORP 20 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29204/73 Heading F2G In a device for tensioning and cutting a flat resilient band 64 placed around articles 66 for bundling, the severed waste end 68 of the band is releasably urged against a contoured surface of a movable support member 26 so as to be deflected from its natural shape and, upon release, to be ejected from the device by its own resiliency in returning to its undeflected shape. As shown, the band end 68 is held by a pawl 34 as the support 26 is slid back in direction 72 within the device housing to tension the band 64 through a fastener 65. A cutter in the nose 32 severs the band and the support 26 is moved towards the nose until the pawl 34 is rotated by contact with a surface 70. The band end 68 is thereby ejected to the side of the support 26. In transverse cross-section, the contoured surface of the support may have planar, concave and convex portions which are progressively rotated away from the transverse axes (Figs. 2-4 and 6-16, not shown).
