Abstract
1426122 Attachment of linings to brake shoes H KUBLBECK 14 June 1973 [20 June 1972] 28427/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division F2] A brake lining and a shoe have their cooperating surfaces covered with a hardenable adhesive and dried, one of the two components being then exposed to a solvent vapour to obtain a tacky adhesive surface, the lining and shoe then being pressed together by a clamping device and introduced into an oven for adhesive hardening. After adhesive application and drying the linings or shoes are fed along a flat conveyer in two rows through a slot in a tank which contains the solvent in a trough, the conveyer being just above the solvent surface for vapour penetration. The components are then fed out of the tank through a slot after 20 to 40 minutes, whereupon they are transferred manually or automatically to a squeezing assembly. Alternatively, the components are fed on to an inclined conveyer, Fig. 5, which is supported inside the tank 5 on a grate 35 or they are placed on a grate which is lowered into the tank a cover thereof being placed in position during solvent action. The squeezing assembly, Fig. 4, has a plurality of clamps with jaws 15, 17 shaped to conform to the shoes and linings and these are spring-biased to open, and are closed by rollers 23 coacting with the cam surface of a fixed cam 22. The components are inserted at A, the subsequent squeezing pressure being at 12 to 15 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> for 4 to 6 seconds. The bonded shoes and linings are then placed in clamping devices providing a pressure of less than 1 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and heated at 140‹ C. to 200‹ C. in the oven.
