1425660 Microfiche camera H A H SPENCEBATE 1 July 1974 [29 March 1973] 15161/73 Heading G2A In a microfiche camera, a film carriage mechanism includes two platens and a single set of pick-up, microfilming and titling (and release) stations each platen being provided with means for picking up, holding and releasing a respective film lamina and each platen being mounted for X- direction movement (by the same or independent X-direction drive means) within a main frame mounted for Y-direction movement. The platens may have suction devices comprising a plurality of suction holes connected to separate suction chambers. The X-direction drive means may be a helically grooved drum. As shown in Fig. 1, platens 5 and 6 bearing laminae 5' and 6' are releasably locked to an inner frame 3 which is mounted on an outer frame 1 for movement in an X-direction, the outer frame itself being mounted for movement in a Y-direction. Each platen passes stations 8, 9 and 10 for pick-up, filming and titling (and release). Lamina 5' is multiframe imaged in the order 13, 14, 15, 16--12 after which on further X-direction movement lamina 6' is detached from the film cassette and passed to filming station 9 and lamina 5' is passed to titling station 10. A platen may be locked to the outer frame when desired. As shown in Fig.2, platens 22 and 23 have separate X-direction drive means 20 and 21 (in the form of helically grooved drums) for movement relative to stations 24, 25 and 26.
